Bringing Religious Tourists to Russia, Greece

Russia and Greece’s Orthodox Church hierarchies have reached an agreement to co-operate and promote religious tourism in both countries.

The agreement was signed by the Bishop of Corfu, Nektarios, who visited Moscow accompanied by Bishops Nikolaos and Anthimos. Bishop Podolsk Tihon signed the agreement representing the Moscow Church. Orthodox Church have rekindled their relations through this agreement.

The Russian Church agreed to encourage Russians to visit the religious destinations of Greece. With this agreement, the Greek Church aspires to attract Russian tourists to Greece and help solve the financial problems that the Church has to deal with. The promoters are The Church of Greece, the Office of Synodic Pilgrim Tours, Pilgrims’ Center of Moscow Patriarchate.

Hellenic Association of Travel & Tourist Agencies released a questionnaire for its members to note what it feels are the biggest problems in the industry and suggestions on how to help.
