Stylianidis Says Greek Schools in Germany Won’t Close

Greek Minister of Interior Evripides Stylianidis told an audience in Berlin during a conference on Techniques on Legislation Improvement in Greece and Europe that despite Greece’s crushing economic crisis, Greek schools in Germany will stay open, a message greeted with relief by many Greeks living there.

There had been concern that in a bid to reduce costs the Greek government might move to close schools or stop subsidizing them around the world, but Stylianidis said that won’t happen, at least in Germany, the country which is the biggest contributor to bailouts to prop up the floundering Greek economy.

Stylianidis also spoke to a local parliament of Stuttgart and met local governors, mayors, local government ministers and deputies to encourage twinning with Greek municipalities and regions aiming in expertise exchange.
