Greek Paintings on Auction in London

Sotheby’s 19th-Century European Paintings sale in London on Nov. 20 will offer a rich selection from the 19th and early 20th Centuries, including a collection of Greek painters on auction. The include works from Theodoros Rallis, George Jakobides, Giannis Tsarouhis and Konstantinos Maleas.

Jakobides’s painting Dahtylidia Kapnou is expected to go for 150,000-222,000 euros, or $195,450-$286,670 as a first estimate. Seven Rabbis in Jerusalem, a Rallis painting is estimated to be sold for 250.000-370.000 euros, or $325,782-$482,157.

The work, Neoclassical House in Pireas, from Tsarouhis is perhaps his most important work to come to auction. This masterpiece from 1967 has an original estimated selling price of from 100,000-500,000 euros, or $130,323-$651,617. It belongs to Iro Sismani, a friend of the artist, who received it as a gift from him.
