Greek Hotel Prices Fall Most in Europe

Forced by a crushing economic crisis to be more competitive, Greek hotels reduced their rates by 11 percent this year, the sharpest decline in the industry in Europe, according to the website www.trivago.gr.
The site said the average overnight price for a hotel in Greece has fallen to 85 euros compared to 95 euros last year. By comparison, rates in Switzerland have fallen 10 percent and in The Netherlands by 9 percent.
At Agios Nikolaos in Crete the rates fell by 51 percent. In Elounda on Crete, Imerovigli on Santorini, and Corfu and Monemvasia there was also a sharp decline in rates to try to lure customers. Rates on Mykonos, one of the most popular islands, have been reduced to an average of 87 euros per night.
