Greece, Cuts Ready, Tomorrow Coalition Partners Meet

While Greek workers protest in the streets against the new austerity measures, the Minister of Finance, Yiannis Stournaras, managed to finalize the package of budget cuts for the 2013-2014 period, and, following a meeting lasted over three hours, reached an agreement with the Prime Minister, conservative Antonis Samaras.
Stournaras will now have to submit the document to the approval of the other party leaders that support the government, Evangelos Venizelos, leader of PASOK (Socialist) and Fotis Kouvelis, of the Democratic Left. Then it will be submitted to the representatives of international creditors of the country, German Matthias Mors and Klaus Mazuch and the Dane Paul Tomsen, the so-called troika.
Today Stournaras will inform Venizelos and Kouvelis, while tomorrow, barring unforeseen circumstances, the three leaders will meet to approve the package, hoping to pave the way to the allocation to Greece’s next tranche of aid for a total of € 31.5 billion. The new measures, always according to press leaks, will include new cuts to salaries and pensions and increased pension age to 67.
