Tsipras Tells Argentinians They're Better Off

In an article in the Buenos Aires newspaper Pagina 12 entitled The Man Who Made the Euro Tremble, Greek Coalition of the Radical Left (SYRIZA) leader Alexis Tsipras spoke of the lessons Greece and the world learned from the South American country’s economic crisis 11 years ago and said he believes the Eurozone is ready to explode.
When asked about the lesson the Argentinian crisis gave the world in 2001 he characteristically answered, “In the Parliament, I was forced to answer to the Minister of Finance when he attacked Argentina in a racist way. The Minister said ‘We are not like the Argentinians,’ and I answered him that we are worse off. This is the truth,” he said, explaining that the Argentinians are making the basis for a better life.
He stressed that Brazil and Argentina, who suffered similar economic crises, were close to the model of Greece. Tsipras excluded the possibility of their being a far-Right government in Greece because of the Fascist past. He attacked the neo-Nazi Golden Dawn party and blamed the Troika for not being more critical of extremist movements.
