Athina Onassis Considers Leasing Out Skorpios Island

The granddaughter and heiress of tycoon Aristotle Onassis, Athina Onassis Roussel, is about to visit the private island of Skorpios opposite the Nydri area in Lefkada after 14 years, with plans to rent it, the Greek newspaper Real News reported.
Onassis said she has received two proposals from rich individuals already and she has made rental of the island her grandfather bought contingent on no changes in its use, according to his wishes.
She said she will let it go for a 30-year lease because of the costs of maintenance and repair work that must be undertaken each year that amount to 85,000 euros, or $111,583 monthly for all the premises there. She has visited there only twice in in the past; at the age of 8 and 12.
The island is close to the bigger Ionian island of Lefkada. Serbian and American investors have already asked she lease it, as the Emir of Qatar Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, who visits Greece quite often, especially the Ionian Sea. He reportedly wanted to buy it but the offer was rejected. More recently, he bought the house of famed Italian fashion designer Valentino.
