Estia Foundation Gets Australian Grant to Help Disabled

The New South Wales government has recently announced the funding of $1.16 million for the Estia Foundation in Gladesville which will go toward supporting housing for people with disabilities.

An initiative of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of Australia, the Estia Foundation was established in 1994 and provides 24-hour respite care for young adults with physical and intellectual disabilities from different ethnic backgrounds.

Estia will contribute the capital requirements for two new villas in Gladesville, with the NSW Government providing the recurrent funding to support the people with a disability who live there. The funding is part of the government’s Stronger Together 2 program aiming at reforming disability support services.

“We would like to thank the NSW government for being so sensitive to the special needs of the disabled and for recognizing the high standards of care and facilities Estia has offered so far and will continue to offer,” said the Archbishop of Australia and president of the Foundation, His Eminence Stylianos, who also thanked the thousands of faithful for helping the foundation over the years with donations. According to the plan, two new villas will be built with the help of Greek-Australian architect Angelos Kandalepas in Gladesville for young adults with special needs.
