German Film Festival to Honor Cinematographer Papamichael

The Oldenburg Film Festival officials this year have decided to honor celebrated cinematographer Phedon Papamichael, who is of Greek origin. The festival will take place from Sept. 12-16 in Cologne, Germany, where many cinema lovers are expected to attend.

Papamichael was born in Greece but educated in Germany. He moved to the United States where he has worked as the leader cameraman on numerous Hollywood movies, including Gabriele Muccino’s The Pursuit of Happyness, starring Will Smith, and George Clooney’s political drama The Ides of March.

He has also shot two of Director Alexander Payne’s – a fellow Greek – movies, The Descendants and Sideways, which enjoyed great critical success. Besides his  camera job, Papamichael has been allured by the director’s chair for the 2008 horror film From Within, and the 2010 drama Arcadia Lost.

At the festival, Papamichael will also present the world premiere of his latest film, the comic drama Lost Angeles, as well as the From Within, and the Unstrung Heroes directed by Diane Keaton but shot by Papamichael.
