New Byzantium Episodes Coming for Hellenic Research

Representatives of the International Center for Hellenic Research announced they intend to film eight more episodes on life and career of distinguished figures coming from the Fener area in Istanbul. Officials of the research center came up with this idea after screening the documentary entitled “Byzantium after Byzantium” presented in Greece as well as abroad.

Erato Pari, founder and director of the International Center told Ampe News Agency that “the ‘Byzantium after Byzantium’ documentary represents the first completed project of our institute about the Ecumenical Hellenism and the Philhellenes.” The documentary focuses on the role of Phanariotes in the conservation of Hellenism after the fall of Constantinople and has been awarded several distinctions in international film festivals.

This coming autumn, the documentary will be presented in Vancouver and Quebec, Canada, as well as in several US states including New York, Boston, Chicago, San Francisco and Los Angeles. It was filmed in various cities all over the globe such as Athens, Paris, Bucharest, Istanbul, Calcutta, Mumbai, Marseille, Chios, and much more, while almost 400 scientists, writers and artists contributed to this production.

According to Paris, their aim is to film eight new episodes, approximately 30 minutes each, on Post-Byzantine families and is appealing to Greeks abroad to aid this effort.
