A call for friendship from young Greeks in Germany – the first stop of the program “From Athens to London: Shape Your Future”

The program “From Athens to London: Shape Your Future” traveled to Germany, and more specifically to the cities of Cologne and Frankfurt. It is organized by the NGO organization “Mathitiada.” The program was welcomed by young Greeks living in Germany, but also by youngsters from different states, proving that common targets are able to unite, leaving aside geopolitical and economic differences.

On Friday July 13th 2012, during a conference that took place in the biggest Olympic Museum in Germany The Museum of Sports and Olympic Games (Deutsches Sport & Olympia museumhttp://www.sportmuseum.de) the representatives of the program “From Athens to London: Shape your future” delivered the olive that they previously had received from the Municipality of Athens as a symbol of solidarity, friendship and integrity. “For us Greeks, the Olympic Games did not stop on 2004 but instead, they continue every year but through the program ‘Mathitiada,’” the representatives of the program stated. A particular interest was shown by Dr. Manfred Laemmer, lector in the Sports University of Cologne and representative of the German Olympic Academy, who spoke with a positive manner about the program, presenting it as a unique opportunity for Greece to promote a positive image abroad. He also stated that “Greece should reinvest in the strengthening of the tourist industry and the promotion of its civilization.

On Saturday, July 14th 2012, the volunteers of the program were invited to the radio station of the city of Cologne “Westdeutscher Rundfunk,” to inform listeners about the purpose of the program that is uniting the voices of young people, outside Greek boarders. The response was surprisingly overwhelming, and in the mean time, the volunteers expressed the problems, ambitions and dreams that trouble young Europeans.

The central message from the trip to Germany was that young people share the same goals and dreams, as well as the same problems and concerns for their future and humanity, without being confined by borders, different ethnicities, and different religions. Their future is their biggest priority, and their need to express and promote their beliefs through the help of the internet, no matter their place of residence, is of major importance. The youngsters fight for their lives, making steps from thinking to expression and from expression to action.

Young people in Europe are just one step away from grabbing the opportunity to express their opinion for the future they dream of. They will have the opportunity to present their proposal to the European Parliament in October, when he program will be completed. By posting their message for a better future at www.facebook.com/ShapeUrFuture and inviting their friends to vote, everyone has the opportunity to become a member of the voluntary organization “Mathitiada” uniting their voices with hundreds of youngsters already participating to the program From Athens to London: Shape your Future.

A simple click to www.facebook.com/ShapeUr Future is enough for the voice of all young Europeans to travel to Brussels. Next stations of the program abroad, after Germany, are the Olympic Games held in London in August.

The program From Athens to London: Shape Your Future is organized by the Public Gas cooperation (ΔΕΠΑ) and Aegean Airlines.
