Tax Agents in Greece Advised to Forget About Summer Vacations

“Now is the time to fight” was the message by the deputy Finance Minister Yiorgos Mavragiannis to the heads of the 30 major Tax and Customs offices of the country, which collect 80% of tax revenues, according to newspaper Proto Thema.
In the first introductory meeting they had today, he called for the intensification of controls and zero tolerance for employees who do not work according to law and the spirit of the times.
He also asked them to “give their lives to save the homeland” in the next six critical months.
“Forget your leaves for the summer; otherwise we will find ourselves on permanent leave from December on,” he said, wanting to emphasize that both the government and the future of the public sector will be judged by the results of the fight against tax evasion.
