The Greek economy has been suffering under the burden of piling debt to international creditors and austerity measures from the EU/IMF/ECB for the past five years, leaving its people with almost nothing new to start with. Taxation is increasing, while prices climb higher. Cuts in social expenditures force people into despair, while politicians yearning for power fail to make the right moves and lead the country out of the crisis.
And yet this is only one side of the coin mostly cultivated by local and international media about the current situation of the debt-ridden country. What gives the Greek people hope to look to their future in a less bleak way is their sense of humor, their playful nature and optimism. Where there’s a lack of means, there is ingenuity and strong will to be found.
