Demographic Study Shows More Greek-Australians Are Married and Own Homes Compared to Other Australians

The new SBS online platform shows, with simple, easy-to-understand, interactive maps and graphs, Australia’s population data for several ethnic groups of the country, including Greeks.

According to this census explorer tool, more Greek Australians own a house and are married than Australians. More specifically, 54% of Greeks own a house, compared to Australians’ lower by about 20% rates (32%).

Our Greek parents and grandparents’ wish has always been to see their children married someday with a soul mate (preferably Greek), with two children or more, living happily ever after. Who has not heard this dream of our predecessors for decades at every family celebration? As it seems, this kind of Greek tradition has followed Greek Australians too and thus, more than 60% of them are married. On the contrary, 49% of Australians are married.

The online SBS interactive tool provides users with several data on Australia’s ethic communities. This website provides users with the particular features of the Greek Australian population, such as their age, academic degrees, citizenship etc. In a quick search, it shows that most Greeks of Sydney live in Earlwood and about 3,000 Greeks live in Reservoir, Victoria.
