Euronews Channel to Broadcast in Greece, too!

Euronews channel is about to broadcast 24/7 from Athens and as a result, Greek is going to be the 12th simultaneously broadcast language of the international news channel whose slant is to cover news from a European perspective, avoiding a national viewpoint.

More specifically, an Athens-based channel will be created in order to present Greek news directly to a Greek-speaking audience. According to recent press release, Stelios Stefanou, manager of ERT SA, Greece’s national broadcasting company, Themis Themistocleous, director general of Cypriot channel RIK and Michael Peters of the Euronews announced the establishment of a Greek Euronews branch.

They referred to the benefits that Greece will have from this development. Both Greek and Cypriot journalists will be hired to work for Euronews, while Greeks abroad will have the chance to watch the Greek news on cable and satellite TV.

Euronews will be the first Athens-based channel to provide around-the-clock news from Greece. Mr Stefanou stressed that, with Greek and Cypriot employees, the channel will present a fully-detailed image of Greek and Cypriot news.

The European news agency is expected to broadcast first in December 2012 while Euronews will need over 30 professionals to work for the channel. Mr Michael Peters stated that the announcement posting the qualifications needed to work for Euronews will be soon announced.
