Shocking Number of 6 Drowning Deaths at Greek Beaches

Greece is shocked by the mounting number of people drowning at the country’s beaches. Only last Wednesday six people lost their lives at beaches of Santorini, Ierapetra, Vouliagmeni and Aegina.
Three bodies were retrieved on Wednesday afternoon by the Port Authorities of Thira (Santorini) at the beach area of Tsekoura. Officials rushed to collect the bodies from where they were found and with the help of a local private diver scanned the nearby coast and found a car which had sunk to a depth of about eight meters.
The three corpses were transported to the Health Centre of Thira where they were identified as a 56-year-old man and two women of 50 and 55 years, respectively. Further investigations revealed that the 55-year-old woman was going to take the ship to Piraeus port that same afternoon and the other two passengers were escorting her to the port.
Earlier on Wednesday, a 74-year old man was retrieved unconscious from the cove of Ierapetra. The unfortunate man was transported to the local hospital where his death was certified. The local authorities are conducting an investigation into the circumstances of the man’s death.
Another 83-year-old man was found dead in the sea region of Lagonisi. The man was transported to Sismanoglio Hospital, but the doctors could do nothing to save his life. In addition, an 81-year-old man was found drowned in the beach Peukakia in Aegina by the local Port Authorities.
