Ex-Vice-Mayor of Thessaloniki faces charges of money laundering

Ex-Vice-Mayor of Economics, Michalis Zorpidis, will be brought in front of  an investigator facing charges of money laundering. The authorities have brought evidence against him in the form of more than six million euros in his bank account that can not be accounted for based on his declared incomes.
The investigation into Zorpidis’ account was done to uncover the great deficit in the municipality of Thessaloniki. In front of the same judge and for the same accusations will also be brought the ex-head of the economic services of the municipality since in his account were found 160.000 euros that cannot be justified.
Meanwhile, on Monday the ex- mayor of Thessaloniki,  Vasilis Papageorgopoulos, was released after apologizing for the same incident. Mr. Papageorgopoulos has to pay bail of 120.000 euros and to present himself to the police department of his region. He is also forbidden to leave the country. The same restrictions but a bail of 30.000 euros were imposed also on his wife.
