Student Accused of Shooting Burglar Released Οn Desk Appearance Ticket

The 24-year-old student from Paiania, Athens, accused of mortally wounding an Albanian burglar who broke into his house in the early hours of Thursday, was released today after the unanimous decision of the prosecutor and the examining judge.
The young defendant was set free on the condition that he appears every 15 days at the police department of his area of residence, while awaiting commencement of his trial scheduled to take place within the next couple of years.
The lawyer of the 24-year-old told journalists that both the examining judge and the prosecutor realized that the defendant was a man of honor, completely harmless to his surrounding environment whatsoever, and carefully examined the attenuating circumstances and evidence of the case before reaching a decision.
Friends, relatives and neighbors gathered outside the Evelpidon court in support of the young man and burst out into applause and cheers at the announcement of the judicial decision.
The 24-year-old medical student was accused of murder committed in the heat of passion but his lawyer commented that the defendant’s previous respectable way of life and good conduct made possible his release.
According to the defense lawyer, the student is in shock and a rather terrible psychological condition for being responsible for someone’s death. In his apology, the defendant explained to the judges that he ran after the two men who broke into his house but had no intention of killing any of them.  He claims his gun went off during the chase.
