Greek Jennifer Kanis Runs for Parliament with the Labor Party

Jennifer Kanis is a Greek Australian who announced her candidancy for MP with the Australian Labor Party. She works as a lawyer and practices in employment, industrial relations and anti-discrimination law.

Before this job, she worked as a secondary school teacher and communications consultant. But this is not Kanis’ first time in politics. She serves as a Counselor of the City of Melbourne and chair or prominent member of several social committees.

In 2009, she was the Convenor of Victorian Women Lawyers and is also a member of the board of directors of the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra and Housing Choices Australia. The 40-year-old candidate is mother of an young boy as well.

The Labor party fully supports this active Greek American. Her election areas include Carlton, Carlton North, East Melbourne, Flemington, Kensington, Newmarket, North Melbourne, Parkville, West Melbourne and some regions of Ascot Valley.

However, the political situation in Australia, with the Liberals and the Greens running for the elections as well, shows that this battle will not be easy for anyone and so the Greek Australian’s election is not granted.
