Russian Patriarch Kirill Gives Greek Wine to Vladimir Putin for Inauguration

On May 7, His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia celebrated a prayer service on the occasion of Vladimir Putin’s inauguration as President of the Russian Federation.

The Patriarch of the Russian Orthodox Church met the Russian President and his wife at the entrance to the Cathedral of the Annunciation.

After the liturgy, during which a special prayer was made for President Putin, His Holiness Patriarch Kirill said a prayer for the head of the Russian state to govern the country in peace and lead it to prosperity.

The Patriarch gave President Putin an exquisite present. Forty bottles of red “Kormilitsa Gold Line Special Edition” wine, especially bottled for the occasion “with the light and wisdom of the Holy Athos.”

Patriarch Kirill received the priceless wine bottles approximately two months ago from Tsantalis Wine Company.

Four years ago, Patriarch Alexios had given the exact same present to former Russian President Dimitri Medvedev.

Kormilitsa “Gold Line Special Edition” is presented by the Tsantali Family as “Official Wine of the Moscow Kremlin.” The word “kormilitsa” in Russian means “provider” (encompassing various meanings, even for the mother who breast feeds her child).

The “Kormilitsa” selection is comprised of three organic limited release wines – two reds from the varieties Limnio and Cabernet Sauvignon, and a white from Assyrtiko and Chardonnay.
