PASOK Breaks World Record of Lost Votes in Greece

The PASOK party broke a record of missing votes during the May 6 elections. Compared to its 2009 voters, the party lost 2,179,013 people who, this time, supported mostly the Radical Left Coalition and the Democratic Left parties, or the Independent Greeks and the Communists’ party.
In Greece’s former Presidential elections, PASOK was elected first with 3,012,542 votes.
But former New Democracy party’s voters chose another party on May 6, according to the statistics. New Democracy received less than half of the votes they did in 2009, or 1,103,665 votes instead of the previous 2,295,719 votes.
On the contrary, Radical Left Coalition party is the ultimate winner in this year’s elections. The party attracted 745,600 more voters than it had in 2009, which makes them the country’s second biggest party.
The right-wing party LAOS lost 202,739 voters and did not manage to enter Greek Parliament. A part of them chose, unfortunately, the Golden Dawn extremists. The latter received almost 420,000 more votes than in 2009.
The newly formed parties Democratic Left and Independent Greeks got votes from 386,166 and 670,596 people respectively, so both gained their own seats in Greek Parliament.
