Natural History Museum of Lesvos Participates in European Museum Competition

The only Greek museum which represented Greece in the Luigi Micheletti Awards was the Natural History Museum of the Lesvos Petrified Forest. The Awards Ceremony took place in Augsburg, Germany April 27-28 at the TIM – State Textile and Industry Museum of Augsburg.
The Greek Museum competed with 18 institutions from 12 European countries. Despite the fact that it was not awarded, it showed that it is equal to many major European museums.
Every year, the European Museum Academy (EMA) and the Luigi Micheletti Foundation jointly coordinate the Awards Ceremony in order to give a prize to the most successful and innovative museum in Europe, as well as to museum staff and scientists working in the fields of industrial and social history, technology and science.
Nikos Zouros, Director of the Lesvos Museum, presented the Greek institution and its activities to the Europeans. He mentioned the audiovisual material used by the Museum to inform visitors, its innovative presentation of the exhibits and he also made special reference to the Museum’s impact on local, national and international communities.
This year’s Luigi Micheletti Prize was awarded to Scotland’s Museum of Travel and Transport in Glasgow.
