Brussels Hosts Event to Support Greece

“12 Hours for Greece” is an event being held by Belgians to support Greek citizens.

On Wednesday, May 16, for half a day, from 10am to midnight, inhabitants of Brussels will gather at Halles de Schaerbeek to show their opposition to the Europeans’ policy towards Greece.

This event is part of the “Odyssey’s Marathon” agenda, an attempt of Belgians to showcase the culture of Greece. Music, a Homer’s reading, discussions and many other events will be included in the celebration.

Innumerable Greek associations based in Belgium, as well as Greek students in Belgium and neighboring Luxembourg, will attend the event. It is also possible that Jose Barroso, President of the European Commission, will participate in the opening celebration.

The 12-hour-long festival will end with a performance from famous Greek singer Dionysis Savvopoulos.

The purpose of this Belgian initiative is, apart from supporting Greece in general, to raise money for the Greek non-profit organization, “The Smile of the Child,” which takes care of children in need in Greece.
