Greek Consul in Boston: ‘No Reason to Postpone Greek Independence Day Parade’

The Greek Independence Day Parade will still be held in Boston on Sunday, April 22 at 1pm, as was already planned. This was confirmed by the President of the Federation of Hellenic-American Societies, Themis Karatzas, after a meeting was held at the Maliotis Cultural Center so members of the Greek community could discuss the possibility of postponing the parade.

According to the weather forecasts, it may rain on Sunday and Greeks living in Boston became apprehensive. Among the attendants of the meeting were Consul General of Greece in Boston, Ilias Fotopoulos, Reverend of Dormition of the Virgin Mary Greek Orthodox Church, Manetas Konstantinos, and other members of the Federation.

Consul Fotopoulos asked if there was any information from City Hall or officials about a possible security issue, or if schools had announced they would not participate in the parade. Federation President Karatzas denied this concern, and meeting attendees decided there was no reason to cancel or postpone the parade.
