The misdemeanors court of Edessa made an unprecedented decision when they decided to punish a 62 year-old doctor to community service after he was found guilty of a medical mistake. It is the first time that a Greek court reached a verdict like that after the last modification of the 100 Penal Code article.
The doctor, who works to the Pediatric Clinic of Edessa, is obligated to offer free service for one hour per week for one year to the outpatient sector of the Pediatric Clinic of the General Hospital of Edessa.
The 62-year old was facing charges of negligent homicide of a 6 month-old infant, and was sentenced to four years imprisoment with suspension.
