Athens and Piraeus Pharmacies Stop Distributing Medicine on Credit to EOPPY

Pharmacists in Attica and Piraeus decided Wednesday to stop the distribution of medicine to some 9.5 million insured under the new Healthcare Services Agency (EOPPY) due to the agency’s unpaid debts to both pharmacists’ associations.
Pharmacists claim that the EOPPY umbrella of social security funds owes them some 300 million Euros prior to the merger of the funds.
The pharmacists’ relevant announcement read that the government must soon settle the bill or the union will continue its protest by not supplying medicine on credit. ANSAmed cited a part of the pharmacists’ announcement: “We have long postponed the implementation of decisions by general assemblies concerning the withdrawal of medicines from EOPYY while awaiting the application of the law calling for the agency’s debts to be settled.”
On Thursday, April 5, pharmacies in Attica and Piraeus will stay closed. A joint gathering will be held at 9am outside the EOPPY premises in order to “retrieve the money tax payers paid for their healthcare expenses, and which has never been given to pharmacists.” according to apergies.gr.
