Only Immigrants With a Health Certificate Will be Able to Work

Based on a joint approach to tackle the problem of illegal immigration, Health Minister Andreas Loverdos and his Citizen Protection colleague, Michalis Chryssochoidis, presented a full-scale plan capable of ensuring the protection of public health in the country from illegal immigrants who enter it.
At a common presser on Sunday afternoon, they presented a health amendment based on six axes:
1) First and foremost, specialists will search and find the main diseases of immigrants who have illegally entered Greece.
2) From now on, all immigrants will undergo necessary and thorough health checks.
3) Certain guarded wings will be created in hospitals so as to welcome and provide care for immigrants with contagious diseases.
4) Immigrants will not be able get jobs that have to do with public health.
5) Police units along with HCDCP personnel will drive around and carry out checks on immigrants.
6) They will create a public line which citizens will be able to use and report the existence of flats and/or spaces where they see many immigrants staying together in unhealthy leaving conditions.
Employers will be responsible, too.  Along the lines of public health, the ministers addressed employers who very often give jobs to illegal immigrants only because they are cheaper labor, not taking into account their state of health or hygiene.
Thus, from July 1st onwards, immigrants will be obliged to go through health checks and “employment will be allowed for employee health certificate holders only.”
The Hellenic police, the municipal police, and other bodies will be responsible for the maintenance of order, making sure that the regulations will be followed to the letter.
Loverdos said that in the past years infectious diseases such as AIDS have seen an increase in Greece, in cases of even up to 1000%.
On Monday, the relevant amendment will be tabled in parliament.
