Patriarch Theodore II of Alexandria Honors the Greek-Cypriot Foreign Minister

Patriarch Theodore II of Alexandria and all Africa honored the Foreign Affairs Minister of the Republic of Cyprus, Erato Kozakou Markoullis, with the Cross of St. Marcus for the aid and support of the Republic to the missionary and pastoral work of the Alexandrian Church.
On her part, the Greek-Cypriot Foreign Affairs Minister thanked the Patriarch for his true commitment and contribution to informing the African leaders on the Cyprus Problem.
The discussion, which followed the honoring, revolved around the significant action taken by the Greek-Cypriot and Greek communities in Africa. His Beatitude referred particularly to the example of a Greek-Cypriot man who lives in Australia and has built, in Sierra Leone, a factory producing artificial body parts for the amputated victims of the recent civil war, and especially children.
Theodore II and Markoullis expressed their joint concerns over the future of the Orthodox Christian communities in the suffering Middle East. As concerns Egypt, the Alexandrian Patriarch expressed his belief that the country will gradually grow and prosper, while he also wished for a worthy new successor of the late Primate of the Coptic Orthodox Church of Alexandria, Shenouda III.
The discussion also included the issue of the establishment of an Exarchy of the Alexandrian Church in the republic of Cyprus in the presence of the General Director of the Foreign Affairs Ministry, Petros Eftychios.
Theodore II headed  the synaxis of the Primates of the Orthodox Churches in Middle East, held in Nicosia on March 26 after the relevant invitation of the Archbishop of the Republic of Cyprus, Chrysostomos.
