John Stamos Presents GLAAD Award to NBC “Smash” producers

John Stamos was among the stars who attended Saturday’s GLAAD Media Awarards, where he honored his longtime friends and Smash producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron with a humorous and heartfelt speech.

The famous actor presented Craig and Neil (Chicago, Hairspray) with the Vito Russo Award, which – in fact – is named after one of GLAAD’s founders and is offered to an openly LGBT media professional, who has made a significant contribution to promoting LGBT equality. The duo, together, has earned in total 6 Academy Awards, 11 Emmys, 5 Golden Globes, 2 Tonys and 1 Grammy.

John said “As an actor, they (Neil & Craig) have cast me in some very provocative and challenging roles”…only to continue by adding a bit of humor to the whole situation..”They also cast me in my very first gay role…Uncle Jessie from Full House“.

He admitted though that his first real gay role was in 2008 in Wedding Wars, where he played opposite Eric Dane. With this part, he came to realize exactly what it means to be gay from an emotional point of view and he became aware of the freedom they want to share the commitment of marriage.

The 23rd Annual GLAAD Media Awards were hosted by Naya Rivera and Cory Monteith, both from Glee, in NYC.
