Greek Events and Parades for the March 25th National Anniversary

The Greek-American associations in various cities of the USA are once again honoring the March 25th national anniversary with parades and ceremonies.

On Sunday March 18th, the ceremonies for this year’s celebration of the March 25th national anniversary will begin with a great parade in Philadelphia, organized by the Federation of Hellenic-American Societies of Philadelphia and Greater Delaware Valley, as reported by the Greek “Voice of America”. During the parade the American Hellenic Institute will also be honored for its years of presence in the struggle for the promotion of Hellenic issues in the USA. The founder of the AHI, Eygenios Rosidis, the President of the AHI, Nikos Laryggakis and AHI member Spyros Spyreas will attend the parade.

Greek-Americans try really hard to make this parade as large as possible in order to show once again how proud they are for their national legacy, one of the organizers Georgios Choriatis pointed out in the Greek “Voice of America”.

On the 25th of March there will be parades in various big American cities, including Baltimore and New York. Children from Greek schools, bands with national costumes, and representatives of Greek Associations and Greek-Orthodox churches of Baltimore, Washington, Maryland, Frederiksberg, Virginia, Lancaster, Pennsylvania, and more, have been invited by the organizers of the parade in Baltimore.

This parade (that lasts almost three hours) takes place in the Greek neighborhood of Baltimore, close to the Greek Orthodox church of Agios Nikolaos, near well-known Greek restaurants where Greek and American flags proudly wave next to each other.

Unlike Baltimore’s event, the parade in New York lasts a whole day. It always takes place along Manhattan’s 5th Avenue among enormous skyscrapers. Thousands of Greeks take part every year. Local TV stations also film a big part of the parade.
