12th Thessaloniki International Wine Competition

Greek and foreign wine tasters (oenologists, sommeliers and journalists) will be flooding the Northern Greek city of Thessaloniki starting today, during the 12th International Wine Competition.
614 samples from Greece and other countries, such as Bulgaria, Brazil, Germany, Italy, Cyprus, Romania, Slovakia, Turkey, were collected after a long and meticulous organization process.
35 world class wine professionals who accepted the invitation will be the judges of the competition rating the samples on the 12th, 13th and 14th of March 2012. There will be 7 wine categories related to the taste and the production process, such as rosé wines, red wines, white non aromatic varieties, “retsina” wines, wines from aromatic varieties, liquor wines and natural sweet wines.
The Wine Producers Association of Northern Greece organizes the only International Wine Competition held in Greece.  The competition complies with the requirements of the International Organization of Vine and Wine (O.I.V.) and is organized in collaboration with HELEXPO Oenos. The Greek Ministry of Rural Development and Food has granted permission for  the Wine Producers’ Association of the Northern Greece Vineyard to organize and conduct wine competitions.
The official awards ceremony will take place in Athens on Saturday, the 17th of March, during the Oenorama exhibition in Metamorfosi, Attiki. The public will be given the opportunity to taste the award-winning wines at this wine tasting event.
