Greek Deputy Minister Attends 64th Dodecanese Unification Day Celebrations in NY

Greek Deputy Minister of Culture and Tourism, George Nikitiades, attended the celebrations for the 64th Dodecanese Unification Day in New York. In his speech, the Greek official said that first the Greek politicians must work hard, change the established mentality, and become consistent in order to lead the country out of the debt crisis dead end.

Mr. Nikitiades mentioned the recent positive developments and noted that the sacrifices of the Greek people must not be in vain. Furthermore, he stated that no other rival country combines cultural heritage and natural beauty in such a way that Greece does.

The annual celebration for the Dodecanese Unification Day was organized by the Federation of Dodecanese Societies USA-Canada and was held at the hall of St. Demetrios Church in Astoria.

The Archbishop of America Demetrios, the consuls generals of Greece and the Republic of Cyprus, George Heliopoulos and Koula Sofianou respectively, and several representatives from Greek-American associations have also held greeting speeches during the celebration.

During his brief visit to New York, the Greek Deputy Minister had the chance of talking to different officials from Greek-American organizations, with whom he discussed how to better promote Greece with an improved general image in the USA.
