5.0 Magnitude Earthquake Shakes Mount Athos

An earthquake of magnitude 5.0 on the Richter scale occurred on Mount Athos in Chalkidiki at 05.30 on Sunday morning, 30 ​​km west of Mount Athos.
It has been confirmed that no damage or injuries had been reported, while Professor of Geology at the University of Athens, Efthymios Lekkas, gave an interview on ‘Vima 99.5’ radio station reassuring the people that this was not a prelude to a larger earthquake at all.
Finally, Professor Lekkas concluded that earthquakes are normal on Mount Athos, since it is one of Europe’s most intense regions of seismic activity.
