29th Mathematical Olympiad Starts Today

The 29th National Mathematical Olympiad officially commenced on Saturday morning, March 3, organized by the Greek Mathematical Society “Archimedes”. 450 Junior High School and High School students from across Greece have taken part at this year’s event.
The participants were chosen through two consecutive Panhellenic Mathematical Contests, “Thales” (November 2011, some 12,000 participants) and “Euclid” (January 2012, 3,000 participants that passed the first contest phase).
The 29th Mathematical Olympiad is hosted at the building of the New Chemistry Lab of the University of Athens (Navarinou Str. 13A).
The students who excel during the Olympiad will be honored during a special ceremony to be held at the Grand Hall Venue of the Central Building of the University of Athens (Panepistimiou Str. 30) on Sunday, March 4, at 11 am.
Moreover, the students from the schools of the broader Attica region, who have successfully participated in the Euclid Contest, will receive special awards and certificates for their performance.
