Italian Mayors of "Magna Grecia" Solidarity Initiative to Visit Athens

Italian mayors Marco Galdi and Giovanni Boscatiello, founders of the solidarity movement “Magna Grecia”, will visit Athens on February 29.
As has already been publicized, the mayors from the towns of Cava de’ Tirreni and Baronissi in the Campania region of southern Italy have decided to donate their salaries to Greece in order to help the country in its struggle against austerity.
The two mayors have been invited to Greece by KEDKE, the Central Union of Municipalities and Communities of Greece.
The two Italian mayors will meet with the Minister of Home Affairs, T. Giannitsi, the Secretary General of KEDKE, Apostolos Kimisis, and the mayor of Acharnon, Sotiris Douros. They will also visit the Museum of Acropolis.
Giovanni Moscatiello commented on the “Magna Grecia” initiative, stating that it proves that Europe is not only made of spreads and bank bonds. “This solidarity movement towards Greece and its people must be supported by all Italians”.
Galdi on his part said that this is not the first time he comes to Greece, since he has lived in the country for some time and has many friends who described for him the harsh reality the Greek people face in their daily lives.
