High School Students Clash With Police in Athens Rally

High school students from Ambelokipi, Exarchia, Gizi, Chalandri and Cholargos gathered Friday noon outside the Greek Parliament in order to protest against the current conditions of the country’s education system and the harsh austerity measures imposed by the EU and IMF.
The students were holding placards and banners while they chanted anti-austerity slogans. The peaceful rally was disrupted, however, when students threw oranges, stones and other objects at the police forces outside the Parliament building.
The police used chemicals to repel the students and detained one of them. Two more students were detained after the protesting crowd moved to Syntagma Square, right opposite the Parliament. A police officer was injured, according to reports.
