President of Greek Republic Waives Salary

The President of the Greek Republic Karolos Papoulias has decided Wednesday to waive his salary, as announced by Finance Minister Evangelos Venizelos.
During a meeting between the two officials, Papoulias asked the Finance Minister to make all necessary arrangements.
According to economic newspaper Capital.gr, the annual costs of the President reach 355,000 Euros including expenses.
With the majority of the Greek people bearing the back of the debt crisis, such amounts of money seem rather provocative. Many Greeks have asked for the MPs to cut back on their salaries as well, which are now 3,500-4,000 Euros per month.
