European Ombudsman Prof. Nikiforos Diamandouros chaired a symposium held in Istanbul on Friday, January 27. The topics for discussion included the experiences of the EU countries and the plan to establish the Ombudsman institution in Turkey.
The symposium was also attended by the Turkish Minister of Justice, Sadullah Ergin, the President of the Parliamentary Justice Committee of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey, Ahmet Iyimaya, President of the Turkish Council of State, Mustafa Birden, as well as the National Ombudsmen of Holland, Alex Brenninkmeijer, Lars Lindström of Sweden, Jacob Söderman of Finland, and Kalliopi Spanou of Greece.
During his formal visit to Istanbul, Mr. Diamandouros also met on Friday morning with the Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew in Fener.
