Strong Greek Presence at Vienna International Tourism Fair

Greece will participate in the Vienna International Tourism Fair with an impressive stall representing the Greek Tourism Organization (EOT) and various regional tourism organizations. The fair, which is expected to attract roughly 150,000 visitors, opens in Vienna on Thursday and will run until Sunday, with the participation of hundreds of exhibitors from approximately 70 countries.

A series of activities are scheduled at the Greek stall, including a reception by Spyros Spirou, the District Commissioner of the Periphery of Ionian Islands in Greece, Greek music concerts, wine tasting, and a display of Greek cuisine.

Although the international economic crisis has had a negative effect on Austrian tourist flow to Greece, it seems Austrians still remain loyal to Greece.

According to Austrian Newspapers, Austrians prefer to visit Greece for the holidays despite Greece’s economic turmoil. Greece ranks 2nd, after Spain, amongst most popular holiday destinations for Austrians.

In 2011, many Austrian tourists visited Greece, with a tourism increase of 10% compared to last year’s Austrian visits to Greece.

The upcoming International Tourism Exhibition of Vienna (on the 12th of January), in which Greece is going to participate, will undoubtedly serve as a barometer concerning the situation in the Austrian tourism market.
