Pakistan-born artist Nasser Azam proposed the installation of a 12 meter high sculpture of ancient Greek Goddess Athena at London City Airport.
The proposal will be examined next Tuesday by Newham Council’s strategic development committee, and if passed, the airport will greet its visitors with an aluminium or nickel-made artwork, called London Athena.
The sculpture will be facing east with her arms stretched far above her, and is envisioned by some as a potential local landmark. However, the airport has expressed its concerns on whether the sculpture would suit the premises and on costs and methods of maintenance later on.
