Εx-Minister Rams Car Into Police During Traffic Check and Avoids Arrest

A former Greek minister avoided arrest late Saturday after ramming his car into a policeman during a traffic stop, a police source and other reports stated on Sunday, cited by AFP.
Kimon Koulouris, 71, had been pulled over after running a series of red lights in central Athens, the police source said.
He then allegedly insulted the police motorcyclists who were cautioning him and attempted to drive off, injuring one of the officers in the legs.
The Athens News Agency reported that Koulouris, a sidelined socialist, was subsequently escorted to a police station to give testimony but was not arrested, in violation of regulations covering blatant offenses in Greece.
The justice system often gives Greek politicians and celebrities a wide berth, and acting parliamentarians are entitled to official immunity from prosecution which can only be lifted by their peers. These privileges have caused mounting exasperation with the ruling class in the crisis-hit country, which is grappling with its worst debt emergency in decades.
