Two brothers from Thessaloniki introduced white taramas and dolmadakia delicacies to Europeans by opening a successful company in their hometown with traditional Greek products, and thus becoming featured in a main article in the British daily “The Guardian”.
Thomas Douzis is 28 and his brother George is 25 years old. Despite their young age, they have managed to achieve one of the hardest goals for young adults today: the successful establishment of their own small company.
The two brothers’ company specializes in repackaging a range of high-end traditional Greek products – olives, feta and vine leaves for dolmadakia, Allonisos tuna, white taramas, and Pindos mushrooms.
When the crisis first hit Greece in 2008, the two brothers began a personal trip exploring tastes and flavors. More particularly, the two young entrepreneurs had heard of some colorful butter beans in the Prespes area of northern Greece. This set them off to continue discovering unusual tastes throughout Greece.
After 3 years of traveling and discovering unique flavors, the result is an inventory of 300 products being sold to restaurants across Europe or online.
“Whenever we find out a less known product, we either visit the producer or ask them to send us some samples. I have travelled to Prespes countless times until now”, Mr. Thomas Douzis stated to Greek daily Espresso.
