Former Thessaloniki Mayor Vassilis Papageorgopoulos, former general secretary of the Municipality of Thessaloniki Michalis Lemoussias, former deputy mayor Michalis Zorpidis and a senior employee of the Municipality were found guilty of money laundering by a court prosecutor on Monday and are expected to stand before an examining judge very soon.
The charges have been filed after the conduction of an investigation into the 4 persons’ accounts and property assets, which were calculated at a much higher value than expected.
The investigation revealed that the former mayor’s bank accounts held 1 million Euros, while the sum of 6 million euros and 870,000 euros were discovered in the bank accounts of former deputy mayor Zorpidis and former general secretary Lemousias respectively.
