Jobless Rate Rises To 17.7% In 3Q From 16.3% In 2Q

Jobless rate rose to 17.7% in the third quarter of the year from 16.3% in the prior quarter, with those aged below 30 the hardest hit, the country’s statistics agency said Thursday.
The jobless figure was 12.4% in the third quarter of last year, said the Hellenic Statistical Authority (ELSTAT).
More than 35% of people in the 15-to-29 age group are looking for a job, up from 24.2% in the same period a year earlier. The jobless rate in the 30-to-44 age group reached 16.2%.
Among the “long-term” unemployed–those looking for a job for more than a year–the rate is now 53.2%.
The jobless rate for women in the July-to-September period was 21.5%, compared with 15% for men.
