Alekos Fassianos’ Painting Joins Australian PM’s Art Collection

A painting of renowned Greek artist Alekos Fassianos has recently joined the art collection of the Australian PM, Julia Gillard.

Mrs. Gillard and other ministers of her cabinet attended a philanthropic art exhibition in the Hellenic Museum in Melbourne, which is currently hosting the latest works of Alekos Fassianos.

The Australian PM and ministers were guided through the exhibition by Mr. and Mrs. Fassianos. Mrs. Fassianos gave one of her husband’s paintings as a gift to Mrs. Gillard, who claimed being utterly impressed by the Greek artist’s talent and thanked the couple for their gift.

Alekos Fassianos’ exhibition in the Hellenic Museum in Melbourne was co-organized by the Museum and the Greek Culture Forum and is entitled as “Ancient Myths – Modern Situations”.

Mr. Fassianos had commented on the exhibition’s title: “Here in Australia I’ve found that the Greek community is very tightly connected, and maintains its Hellenism better than the Greeks in Greece, because you’re characterized by myths, those that were taken by your grandparents from the old islands that they came from.”
