Turkey Satisfied with World Court’s Verdict Against Greece

The Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed satisfaction concerning the World Court’s verdict, according to which Greece was wrong to block FYROM’s bid to join NATO in 2008 because of a long-running dispute over the fledgling country’s use of the name “Macedonia.”

Turkey hopes that this verdict can speed up FYROM attempts towards European integration. According to an announcement by the Turkish Foreign Ministry, Turkey will continue to provide support to FYROM, as it has been the first country that recognized the national identity of FYROM.

Turkey has also established an embassy in FYROM and Turkish authorities believe that FYROM is of importance for the existing peaceful conditions in the Balkan region.
