Greece Awaits Ruling on Macedonia Name Dispute

The International Court of Justice decision on the 5th of November is expected to favour FYROM concerning Macedonia’s Name Dispute.  In an application filed in November 2008, FYROM claimed that Greece violated its rights by objecting to its application to join NATO.
According to the Greek  newspaper ‘Kathimerini’, World Court will accept that Greece breached the 1995 United Nations-brokered Interim Accord that regulated relations between the two states by blocking Macedonia’s accession to NATO in 2008.
Relevant statements have been made by then PM Kostas Karamanlis and Foreign Minister Dora Bakoyannis in the past.
