UK Telegraph Gunning for Greek PM Papademos

UK Telegraph supported the thesis that during the turbulent Euro crisis, people need democratically elected governments.

In his article, British publicist Charles Moore stressed that the only truth for those running Europe is to save the common currency. More particularly, he refers to the new Greek PM Lucas Papademos, who has not been elected to take office.

“He (Papademos) is the former governor of the Bank of Greece, and it was part of his job a decade ago to persuade the European Union that his country had met the budget deficit criteria which would permit entry to the euro. It hadn’t, but he said it had. Greece joined. Now, partly because of this original fiction, Greece is bust,” writes Moore adding that the EU leaders had been so frustrated and shocked by the referendum decision of former Greek PM that they are now choosing Papademos over Papandreou.

At the same time, Mario Monti in Italy is being forwarded into becoming Italy’s next PM, though he is not an elected politician. He actually spent a lot of time as a European Commissioner and his postal address places him in Brussels. “But the euro-giants love him” just like they do Papademos.

“These changes are welcomed by the powerful because they mean rule by ‘technocrats’” concludes Moore leaving enough space to wonder whether these tactics are appropriate and useful in handling the euro crisis.
