Abolition of Thousands of Jobs In the Public Sector

Thousands of positions in the public sector will be abolished in the coming months, as declared by the Minister of Administrative Reform and Electronic Governance, Mr. Dimitris Reppas.
According to the minister, the whole procedure is at hand while 30.000 employees of the public sector will be immediately put at labour reserve status.
Mr. Reppas also raised the possibility of the abolition of tenure for civil servants by means of a possible revision of the Constitution after 2013.
In early October, the regulation concerning labour reserve status for civil servants will be submitted to Parliament. However, there are several public sector divisions claiming they are not able to send data about their redundant staff.
The regulation on labour reserve status will include 5 criteria, according to newest information.
Civil servants over 60-years-old, those not having a degree or appointed without ASEP exams, and those practicing administrative duties will be the first ones to go to labour reserve status.
