Hellenic Police Αsks for More Teargas Guns

The imminent danger of possible social disturbances breaking out this fall due to the unbearable austerity measures has made the Generals of the Hellenic Police to put pressure on the Ministry of Citizen Protection for supplying them with enough teargas guns.
Last summer the arsenal of the Police faced shortage in defensive guns and now special emphasis is being placed on the operational readiness of the MAT, DELTA and DIAS units. Therefore, despite the 800 million Euros budget abatement of the Ministry, the warehouses of the Police are being filled up with teargas guns.
Even if the Police are using the low-cost teargas CS (ca. 4-5 Euros),  a single episodic demonstration requires more than 2000 parts, which renders teargas supplies a considerable expenditure for the Ministry.
According to information from Ministry officials, not too many weeks ago the procurement of teargas guns and chemicals has been completed worth 900,000 Euros.
Generals of the Police recommended buying more armored vehicles, using plastic bullets and color buckshots in case the units lose control over the situation.
